Ennis Book Club Festival ‘22
Back in 2022, the team at the Ennis Book Club Festival approached me to help them do a full rework of their festival design. Although the presence of the word ‘Club’ in the name might not make it immediately clear, this event is, for all intents and purposes, a literary festival that attracts visitors from all over Ireland. They bring some of the biggest names in Irish writing to the Clare town every year, and always a few international guests. They will celebrate their 20th year next year (2026), so it was a honour to be asked to take the creative helm.
The brand mark is a simple representation of a variety of books perched on a shelf, a straightforward mark for a literary festival, but one with the aim of providing a bit of longevity (it has remained the main brand mark for each subsequent festival year since).
For the first year making use of this new brand look, I expanded on this idea for the festival poster, programme and flyer, imperfect book rectangles stacked in different formations, sometimes used as a framing device for photography.
There was a long list of creative needs both for promoting the festival and for the weekend proper: newspaper ads, social media campaigns, way-finding, signage and more.
